Fertility Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a gentle and effective way of treating fertility and gynaecological problems.
The months leading up to conception are viewed in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a window of opportunity to enhance a woman's health and wellbeing, and value is placed on strengthening her energy in preparation for a healthy pregnancy.
You may be looking at this page because it is taking longer to conceive than you thought, or you may have sought medical help and either be undergoing investigations, or have received a medical diagnosis. Or you may be conceiving but sadly having recurrent miscarriages. At whatever stage in the journey you are at, acupuncture (possibly combined with Chinese herbal medicine) is helpful.
Some problems with fertility are due to hormonal imbalances. These may create irregularities within the menstrual cycle such that your cycle may be too long or too short or completely irregular (a typical cycle is between 26 - 32 days). You may not be having periods at all, or you may be having problems ovulating. Other not uncommon abnormalities within the menstrual cycle may be: excessive bleeding, pain before, during and/or after bleeding, passing clotted blood during your bleed, spotting prior to or after a period, mid-cycle bleeding or suffering from a whole variety of unpleasant physical and emotional symptoms in the lead up to a period. Some of these symptoms may be due to a specific condition such as polycystic ovarian syndrome or endometriosis. Some of you may have perfectly regular and seemingly normal periods, or you may have been through a host of Western medicine diagnostic tests with no abnormalities found and yet unable to conceive, thus attracting a diagnosis of 'unexplained infertility'.
Here is where a Chinese medical consultation and treatment can be so very useful: whether or not an abnormality within your menstrual cycle has a medical name, whether or not you are aware of particular symptoms which may be causing the problem, because Chinese medicine is holistic, we look at and address a whole spectrum of environmental, nutritional, lifestyle, emotional and spiritual factors which can all play a part in negatively influencing both general and fertile health.
Male fertility problems such as low sperm count, reduced motility or poor morphology (abnormal size and/or shape) are becoming increasingly common in modern society. TCM addresses these issues in a similar manner.
